Abstract

GASILLON, María Lourdes. Barcelona magazine: when sarcastic humor overcomes reality. mrlad [online]. 2022, vol.5, n.9, 00002. ISSN 2617-4839.  http://dx.doi.org/10.36286/mrlad.v3i6.125.

An approach to the Barcelona magazine (2003-continues) is proposed from a semiotic reading that involves paratextuality (Genette, 1989; Alvarado, 1994), intertextuality (Kristeva, 1981) and parody (Jitrik, 1993) of speeches, characters and current events. The constructive matrix of the weekly will be analyzed, given in the crossing of different discursive genres (Bajtín, 2013) and images of different nature, subversive criticism, masking and vulgar language, transposed to the textual plane through a carnivalization operation (Bajtín, 1987, 1993). Finally, the enunciative strategies and connotation procedures (Kerbrat- Orecchioni, 1983; Barthes, 2017) will be identified that the magazine uses to build an image of the sociopolitical context based on the concept of «lo reidero» (Traversa, 2009a), which is put into operation if the reader has the appropriate linguistic and encyclopedic skills (Eco, 2013) to unravel their modes of production of meaning.

Keywords : Barcelona; graphic humor; carnivalization; paratextuality; parody.
