The purpose of this work is to investigate the poetic art of José Santos Chocano and determine both its structural and functional importance in the poems “El nuevo dodecasílabo”, “Troquel” and “Ánfora”. For this, the article is divided into four sections, which are made up of a critical balance of the studies on the work of José Santos Chocano, the development of the theoretical framework referring to poetic art, the analysis of the poems is continued using the Carlos García-Bedoya’s hermeneutical model and finally, the results and conclusions of the study are presented where an approach to the aesthetic ideology of the Peruvian poet is established.
