Abstract

DE LAO QUISPE, Willians Víctor. The biblical whale and socio-political criticism in Canto ceremonial contra un oso hormiguero (1968): a rhetorical reading from the concept of symbolic violence. mrlad [online]. 2022, vol.5, n.9, 00010. ISSN 2617-4839.  http://dx.doi.org/10.36286/mrlad.v3i6.133.

The following article analyzes two poems by Antonio Cisneros: “Poema sobre Jonás y los desalienados” and “Apéndice del poema sobre Jonás y los desalienados”, from the book Canto ceremonial contra un oso hormiguero (1968). We proceed with a thorough rhetorical analysis to postulate that the texts use the figure of the whale to represent a sociopolitical system that represses the subjects who are part of it, who are denied full knowledge and the freedom to decide the course of their lives. Thus, the subjects have no choice but to validate the hegemonic system that alienates and exploits them, since they are inevitably articulated with it. In this way, the final message of the poems is related to the notion of «symbolic violence», expounded by the French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu.

Keywords : Symbolic violence; figurative fields; argumentative techniques; interlocutors; world view.
