Abstract

GONZALES CAVERO, Rosario  and  SAAVEDRA ARROYO, Valeria. Language adaptation process of Peruvian migrants in Spanish society. Bol. Acad. peru. leng. [online]. 2022, n.71, pp.371-397.  Epub June 23, 2022. ISSN 0567-6002.  http://dx.doi.org/10.46744/bapl.202201.012.

This research describes the language adaptation of nine Peruvian migrants, three of whom lived in the city of Madrid, four currently live in Madrid and two in the city of Guadalajara. Living for a lengthy period, more than two years, has influenced the incorporation of expressions from peninsular Spanish to their own idiolect, which leads to the use of their own dialect, from Lima, as a reference of the migrant’s cultural identity in certain spaces. Interviews were conducted for the preparation of this article. Thanks to this, testimonies were obtained and analyzed, in which it was determined that the Peruvian migrant has gone through a process of convergence, which implies a forced language adaptation, in the social and work environment, due to the pressure of the society.

Keywords : Peruvian migration; migration linguistics; language adaptation; language shift; idiolect.
