N’GOM FAYE, M’bare. Corporality, orality and identity in the literary creation of Arnoldo Palacios. Bol. Acad. peru. leng. [online]. 2023, n.74, pp.11-36. Epub 22-Dez-2023. ISSN 0567-6002. http://dx.doi.org/10.46744/bapl.202302.001.
This paper proposes some reflections on the representation of the black body, African and Transafrican, or Black corporality, as a space for the construction of identity, agency, and citizen vindication in some texts of Arnoldo Palacios’ cultural production. The study focuses on the novels Les mamelles du Chocó (1989), Las estrellas son negras (1971) and La selva y la lluvia (1958). Based on la stratégie ‘d’oralisation’ de la narration, by Ehora Effoh Clement (2013), and on la logique de l’oralité, by Mamoussé Diagne (2005), the use of orality, or orature (Honorat Aguessy, 1972), as a means of recovery and articulation of the historical and cultural memory of trans-Africanism in Colombia and the Americas is analyzed. It explains how Arnoldo Palacios’ writing and cultural project reconstructs the experience of the trans-African body. The Colombian writer reconfigures it and turns it into a space of resistance that revalorizes and reorients the Colombian of African descent as a historical and cultural agent and citizen with inherent rights and, therefore, an essential element of Colombianness and trans-Africanism in the Americas.
