After just over two years of assuming the challenge to manage our journal, we have continue changing, bit by bit, in order to fulfil our goals.

This is going to be the first number with Digital Object Identifier (DOI) system, we planned to do this for a long time but will never get the time to implement it, but, finally, SciELO came to the rescue and, even though DOI were mandatory since 2015, now it has decided to ask their journals to fulfil this criteria 1. DOI is essential to increase visibility and interoperability of all journals listed in SciELO and now is mandatory. We are starting with all our articles for this year and later will continue with prior years.

In this time of changes we are also about to start trying our Open Journal System (OJS) 2, this is a long overdue project that is finally coming into place and will help to make our editorial process better with online submission and several tools to get timely responses from us to the authors and reviewers as well as our Editorial Board that is now being trained in how to use it.

Some year ago, we started to publish in both Spanish and English, this have proved to be a good decision since it has encouraged authors from all over the World to send their articles to us and also has encouraged our own regional and national authors to submit some of their articles in English, this will also enhanced the visibility of their articles since the language of science is English and we need to communicate with as broad a public as possible.

In this number we can find a Peruvian article in English telling us how endoscopy practice has changed for our patients with upper gastrointestinal bleeding during the COVID-19 pandemic so we can learn from this experience and start to plan for what is coming 3. Also, as colorectal cancer continues to increase in the World, it has also risen in South America, so we have an article with authors from different countries that tell us how the screening is being performed now and the future directions that we need to take in order to increase screening so we can prevent the increase in colorectal cancer incidence 4.

Finally, stomach cancer remains to be quite important in our Andean region, being the most lethal cancer in Peru, in this issue we publish a quite interesting review talking about premalignant conditions that will help to early detection of gastric cancer, this is still a really important problem in our region that has not yet been properly addressed, so articles like this may help to develop programs that will be of interest for the public health of our countries 5.

There are several other articles and case reports that our reader will find appealing, especially in these pandemic times when reading can be a way to use the time we have in between our new activities while we hope things get better and return to something similar to the normality we had before.
