It is set as the first objective to analyze the styles of confrontation culture and counter-culture to check its evolution with the passage of time between university students from 18 years ago and contemporary students; as a second objective, to know the relationships between styles and attitudes toward raising Mexican university students. For such purpose they chose a convenience sample (N = 213), and cultural styles were evaluated (obedience, external control, caution, interdependence and love), as well as counter-cultural styles (assertiveness, self control, boldness, independence and power); also, expectations, and disciplinary practices, and of child-rearing. Through tests of means it was revealed that the contemporary university students supported the styles of assertiveness and autonomy, but also of love. By means of non-parametric statistics it was found that the obedience and power groups presented the most severe disciplinary practices; the external control group presented the poorest expectations and upbringingpractices, and the boldness group also had very poor expectations. These results indicate that support for traditional beliefshave been modified and questionsits relevance for upbringing.
